A one street town on a route between mountains and desert, Ouarzazate is surrounded by some of the most picturesque landscape in Morocco. The village is a great location from which to explore the raw and captivating beauty of the Dades Valley, which is home to dry stretches of rough terrain, but also to flowing streams, fields of date palms, and the luxurious greenery of oasis towns.
With charms ancient and surreal, the whole region appears as though completely forgotten by time. Shepherds tend flocks of goat and sheep alongside the ruins of old Kasbahs. And there are a great many here. Their rose-colored walls molded of red earth and exquisitely carved, Kasbahs continue to be the predominant architectural form in the Moroccan desert. Some stand as hotels, and still more as private homes. |
