Stretching across a rough and ruddy outcrop, midway between the Draa valley and the Tafilalt, the Tinerhir township is small but lively, and is the region’s administrative center.

A dense, luxuriant palm grove, irrigated by the Wadi Todra, spreads for seven and half miles north of the city. To the west stands an impressively forlorn Glaoui Kasbah, and to the southeast, the Ait el-Haj Ali, a former Jewish quarter containing a quaint chorus of characteristic desert architecture.

Tinerhir is a wonderful place to idle, take in the Moroccan sunsets, or rent a camel and go off exploring the Todra Gorge. Near to the Todra river are the curious ruins of many ksour, old desert tenement blocks. The region is also known for its quality Berber crafts. A specialized style of blushed earthenware is produced by the craftsmen of El Hart N’Igouramene, just south of Tinerhir.
