Propped high in the cliff tops of the Serrania de Ronda, this town of red-tile roofs, cobbled narrow alleys, and one of Spain’s most beautiful bullrings, was among the last Moorish strongholds. Looking up at the steep natural blockage, it as the Catholics could do to take the city – that is, until they managed to gain control of the town’s water supply. Ronda’s river gorge continues to awe her visitors. The spectacular chasm, spanned by a massive stone bridge over the Guadelevin, divides the town in two, with the older Arab and aristocratic quarter on the one side, and the newer parts of the city, constructed after the Reconquest, on the other. Together they form a most beautiful and fascinating destination, a place to get lost in, and from which gather unparalleled views of the surrounding countryside.
