For many travelers, the first attraction to Paris is dreamy and imaginative. The allure cannot quite be pinpointed, so we think in terms of catch-all phrases - Paris, city of lights, city of romance, city of art and history. Or, Paris…a moveable feast. That is how Hemingway summarized his love of Paris when he penned the words, “If you are lucky enough to have lived in Paris as a [youth], then wherever you go for the rest of your life, it stays with you, for Paris is a movable feast.” |

How you find the city, and just what you find, will ultimately depend on what you are looking for. There is not one Paris, but many, from artistic eclave of Montmartre with its colorful bohemian legends to the grandeur and opulence of the Champs-Elysees. Majestic landmarks like the Louvre, Notre Dame, and Eiffel Tower contrast with the hidden and at times decaying streets of quaint and characterful quartiers. And while the perspective in one direction will be a composed and subtly colored Impressionist painting, in the other it is a modern-industrial farce seemingly all too Moliere. At end, all is beauty that is the product of a rich historical existence. At end, all can be found in Paris. |
